You see the most beautiful things passing you by and with a rental car you enjoy the best of nature and culture around you. And of course you drive the route at your own pace and stop where and when you want. Ok, so many plus points. But – what are the best routes? We’ve gathered the ultimate road trips per continent.
1. SOUTH-AMERICA: RUTA 40 IN ARGENTINA
The Ruta 40 (RN40) is the road from north to south Argentina and is more than 5.000 km long! Some parts of the road are unpaved, so real adventurer-seekers think this is fantastic. You start in the south in Punta Loyala and end in the north at La Quiaca.
You drive through nature. The landscape is beautiful green, with high mountains (up to 5000 meters), snowy peaks and beautiful lakes.
2. NORTH-AMERICA: CABOT TRAIL IN CANADA
The Cabot Trail on the island of Cape Breton brings you to the most beautiful places in Canada. This road trip is almost 400 kilometers long. So take your time for this trip, so that you can experience nature at its best. Stay overnight somewhere or take a walk in between. The island of this trail, Cape Breton, has recently been declared the most beautiful island in the US and Canada.
3. NORTH-AMERICA: ROUT 66 IN THE US
Although Route 66 officially no longer exists, it is still a great route to drive. A real classic, which is why we have chosen to highlight two routes for North America.
Route 66 runs from Chicago to Los Angeles, ending at the beautiful beach of Santa Monica, California. Intermediate Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The route is almost 4000 km long, so take plenty of time to get the most out of your trip.
4. AFRICA: FROM CAPE TOWN TO DURBAN
South Africa is an ideal country for planning a road trip yourself. We recommend the trip from Cape Town to Durban. This is a driving route of more than 2000 kilometers where you drive along beaches, lagoons, nature parks and wildlife parks. You also pass the original Xhosa society. This is a population group that has been living in the East of South Africa for centuries.
5. EUROPE: THE NORWEGIAN FJORDS
Europe has many opportunities for nice road trips. The best, we think, is that from Bergen to Trondheim in Norway. Here you drive along the fjords and beautiful mountain landscapes. You also drive through one of the longest tunnels in the world, the Gudvangen.
6. ASIA: VIETNAM BY MOTOR
The best route in Asia is in Vietnam. The best thing is to road tripping with a motor. You can buy a motorcycle on the spot for a few hundred dollars, which you sell at the end of your journey. Renting is also possible, but then you are sometimes more expensive.
The north of the country is the most beautiful in terms of nature. You have rice fields, purple-hot mountains and peace. Start in Hanoi and go for a round trip through the north of Vietnam (clockwise). You can end your trip nicely in the east, on the beach.
